Instead of 110 small districts that elect one person each, Michigan is divided into 35 larger districts.
Most of these new districts elect 4 representatives, with a couple electing 5 to account for a number of seats that's not divisible by 4.
Because multiple people are elected from your area, it's nearly impossible to gerrymander. Even if your party is in the minority locally, you will still likely elect at least one representative who shares your values.
